Item 1: Fable

The Wolf and the Lamb

WOLF, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, but to find some plea to justify to the Lamb the Wolf’s right to eat him. He thus addressed him: “Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me.” “Indeed,” bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of voice, “I was not then born.” Then said the Wolf, “You feed in my pasture.” “No, good sir,” replied the Lamb, “I have not yet tasted grass.” Again said the Wolf, “You drink of my well.” “No,” exclaimed the Lamb, “I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother’s milk is both food and drink to me.” Upon which the Wolf seized him and ate him up, saying, “Well! I won’t remain supperless, even though you refute every one of my imputations.” The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny.

  1. Rhetorical devices:
  • Metaphor: wolf-lamb
  • Symbol
    • Wolf represents evil-minded and wicked people whose have strong power.
    • Lamb represents honest and innocent people whose have weak power.
    • 2. Message:

In our society, having strong power and defying the law, some evil-minded and wicked people bully people having weak power.

ð You should do something to protect you by yourself

ð Moral lesson: Nowadays, “might is right” is not true no longer. People defying the law will be punished properly.

In my opinion, the message of your second item should be: Companies in general, each person in particular and especially the government have to gather to develop the economy whether it is in crisis or not.

ITEM 1: you have chose a short story but its meaning is worth considering, that’s good. However, you could not find the main message. You said “Nowadays, “might is right” is not true no longer. People defying the law will be punished properly”, I think it is not correct. Because actually, it can be clearly seen that many people today defying the law would not be punished, especially the people who have the power, the higher class in society, or the rich. Therefore, in my opinion, this story has another implication, that is “The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny”, so we must reveal, condemn and eliminate it to bring the fair for our society. Besides, you indicated the metaphor, but it’s not clear enough. You should explain more about what the metaphor is, not just only show the symbols of metaphor.
ITEM 2: You did not indicate the rhetorical devices used in this cartoon. In addition, you should focus more on the man who wears the white shirt, that is Government. Therefore, this picture has a deeper meaning, that is even the Gov has to do its best, and contribute the biggest proportion to foster the development of the economy. The Gov must play a leading role because the Gov man is standing in the arrowhead of ECONOMY.
ITEM 3: You also did not indicate the rhetorical devices of this cartoon. Moreover, I think you should find out more information why this picture has two carps, not only one, and both are in the same in order to find all implications in it.

In your Item 2, you are right to state that everybody have to take effort in overcoming the economic crisis. However, as you can see, the painter only note the label “Govt” and he also let the man “Govt” stand at the highest position (the head of the arrow). Therefore, i think that further idea of him is about expressing the most important and indispensable role of the Government with its timely policies to support and control the economy.

In item 3, the picture reminds of a time in my childhood =). In the old toilet of my family, there was exactly a picture like this on the wall :”>. Once looking at it, I always wondered why the shadow of the moon dwelled under the surface of water. And now I’ve got the answer in your analysis. However, there is one thing remaining that I need to know that, why the artist takes the golden calfs as the symbols of people who search for unreal things in life, not the others else?

In my opinion, irony is the rhetorical device of the second one because there are many people gathering to force the economy. And the message is that to develope the economy, everyone has to try their best. But it is the Government should have the most important part in this issue.
