– DISCRIMINATION

– This picture describes a job interview in which the person who applies for the job is a woman; and the result is that the boss refuses her application just because she is a woman. This is emphasized in his saying “you are simply not the right man”. He implies that this job needs man, not woman. In fact, though women has gained the equal right since the Women revolution, there still exists gender discrimination everywhere especially in the workplace. It is the prejudice that woman is weaker or less intelligent than man, so woman is usually rejected to get jobs regardless of their abilities. The same case happens in this situation; and this is discrimination because of the prejudice in action.

– PREJUDICE

– It is the kind of comic in which three men seeing news about finding for a criminal. Two of them are worried that the criminal would be “a black guy” or “a Middle Eastern one” who has the same racial with them while the white man- the real criminal is not worried at all. This is due to the racial prejudice that the Black and the Yellow are usually more rebellious, disorganized, and likely to commit a crime than the White is. This deep prejudice about the Black and the Yellow has been existed in everyone’s thought even in the Black’s and the Yellow’s mind.

– STEREOTYPE

– This is a poster, which is created to warn everyone about HIV. However, this poster contains the symbols of homosexuality between men. It makes people have impression that gay men cause HIV on raise or it seems that homosexuality is responsible for HIV. Therefore, this is also a stereotype of homosexuality.

I think the third item is not stereotype which is mental image of a group based on opinions without regard to individual differences. it is about scapegoating because it holds gay men responsible for all the problems of the HIV on rise.

ITEM 1: I think you wrote something unnecessary like ” In fact, though women has gained the equal right since the Women revolution, there still exists gender discrimination everywhere especially in the workplace. It is the prejudice that woman is weaker or less intelligent than man, so woman is usually rejected to get jobs regardless of their abilities”. I think you should omit it and conclude that it’s gender discrimination, that’s enough.
ITEM 3: it’s not STEREOTYPE, it’s SCAPEGOATING because it’s holding homosexual men responsible for “HIV on Rise”.

    – i think item 1 and 2 are quite good. however i agree with Thanh on the point that you needn’t add so much information to explain that the discrimination is wrong.
    – in item 2, it is prejudice, but the way you analyse is not wright at all. because it is indecate clearly in the bottom of the picture that ” the power of white privilege” . so it is aimed at the prejudice about THE WHITE, not the Black or the Yellow as you say.
    – in item 3: i must agree with others’ comments that it is scapegoating as the picture indicates strongly that the homosexual take the responsibility for HIV

I agree with the comments of our friends in the third item. Your description and analysis are very good and i know that you understand. However, you may make a mistake of typing. It is scapegoating instead of stereotype.
