Item 1

• Fallacy of presumption : hasty generalization.
• Analysis: the Dr. Khuat Viet Hung argues that the solution of changing the schooling and working hour proved to be effective in other countries, so it also suitable for Vietnam. However, the socio-economic conditions of each country are different. Therefore, it is unreasonable to affirm this solution will be successful in Vietnam

Item 2

“…The terror of society, which is the basic of morals, the terror of God, which is the secret of religion – these are two things that govern us…”
(Oscar Wilde, the Picture of Dorian Gray, 1891)
• Fallacy of presumption: false dilemma
• Analysis: According to this saying, people are only under the control of the society and the God. In fact, there are many factors affecting people’s life such as friends, money.

Item 3

“It hurts society. We already have moral standards that are in place that have been there a long time. The standard for marriage is one man and one woman who are of legal age. If we redefine the standard, then we move the line back a little”.
Ultimahero, 23:40, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
• Fallacy of relevance: appeal to popularity
• Analysis: the claim that marriage is between a man and a woman is accepted as being true simply because most people are favorably inclined towards it. In fact, people have right to marry the person they love. Many countries approved this kind of marriage.

In my opinion, in the second item, it is not false dilemma. As far as I’m concerned, false dilemma gives a choice between one and another, not the two things as you mentioned. And, by the way, you should point out what kind of marriage is mentioned there in the third item.

I agree with Sim that the item 2 is not false dilemma, and it is also not suitable for the entry. About the item 3, I suggest it is also Appeal to Tradition because of the argument “We already have moral standards that are in place that have been there a long time. The standard for marriage is one man and one woman who are of legal age”

    in my opinion,
    1. The 3rd item is appeal to tradition, like the way thao analyzed.
    2. i do not agree with sim in the 2nd item. i think it is false dilemma fallacy. the 1st and 2nd item are totally right and interesting
